How jute geotextile works
Laid over exposed soil, an open-weave jute mesh breaks the force of rain and runoff, traps sediment, and dramatically reduces erosion while seeds germinate and roots take hold. Jute is naturally hygroscopic, so it absorbs and holds moisture at the soil surface — improving germination on difficult slopes. Over roughly one to two seasons the fabric biodegrades, adding organic matter to the soil, by which time established vegetation has taken over the job of holding the ground.
